Cicely Tyson – an award winning American actress – will be joining the list of the ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood. Cicely Tyson will receive the Legend Award at the event which celebrates the “pioneers who have paved the way for breaking down barriers and African-American actresses in Hollywood”. And Queen Latifah, Zoe Saldana, Mary J. Blige and Gabourey Sidibe will also complete the list as the honorees of Essence Black Women in Hollywood.

Cicely Tyson has been a famous fashion model before she entered the world of showbiz. She was discovered by a photographer of a magazine. Then she went to showbiz with her first movie, the Carib Gold in 1957. She eventually went to television with her East Side/West Side series and the long-running soap opera The Guiding Light.

“The ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon will pay homage to the outstanding work and contributions of Ms. Tyson. She is a Legend because she continues in her craft with passion and integrity – an accomplishment to which we all aspire.”

Cicely Tyson will be awarded this coming March 4, at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
